VOLUNTEERS: KEY PART IN SANTANDER 2014

 The number of volunteers in the Santander 2014 ISAF World Championships will quadruple in Santander.

One of the key pieces in Santander 2014 -the great world citation of Olympic sailing- will again be without a doubt the volunteer program that, in the next month of September, will quadruple the number of volunteers of the Test Event reaching almost five hundred.

Cristina Vacas, responsible of the Santander 2014  ISAF World Championships Volunteers Program , is now at full capacity with the program: "The experience with volunteers in the Test Event has been magnificent and has served us well, with very good feedback. During the Test conducted in 2013 we had about 120 volunteers divided into different areas but for Santander 2014 we will need approximately 450 volunteers, quadruple of what we've had this year”.

“The program has been very well received; most volunteers we have are from Santander, but during the previous regattas of September we have had cases that even paid their own accommodation in Santander to participate. Many others who have been involved, are asking us the dates that we’ll need them so they can request vacations in their respective jobs.. It's amazing the response from the people", adds Cristina Vacas.

BY SEA AND SHORE

The volunteer program is one of the masterpieces of Santander 2014 and covers all areas of action, divided mainly into two distinct areas: Sea and shore.

"The volunteers at sea work in Regatta committees, Rescue and as ribs auxiliars. On land the main work focuses on Access Controls, Race Office, Boat park  Area, Drivers, Media Center and a small group of "wild cards" that perform well in different areas", says the responsible of the Volunteers in Santander 2014, adding: "Usually the areas where the valuable voluntary work is performed are given from the preferences and skills of volunteers. We try to performance the maximum of their knowledge and looking that is useful also to them”.

THE PROGRAM IS ALREADY RUNNING. VOLUNTEERS SANTANDER 2014

The inscriptions in the volunteer program are already underway and will start with all those who have already participated in the Test Event.

All volunteers who become part of Santander 2014 ISAF World Championships will fulfill a general training plan, which will then be followed by another more specific, depending on the area in which they perform their duties and to be held in August.

The organization of Santander 2014 has already opened the deadline from the web of the regatta. All of those interested can join.
