Santander, the old port of a thousand sails.

A series of lectures organized by the Society Menéndez Pelayo for World Sailing.

The conferences will be held from Thursday until September 10, with about a dozen conferences in which various aspects of sailing, the Olympic and history of the bay, boats and crews will review, by renowned experts in each areas.



Speakers include, sailors Fernando Echavarri and Berta Betanzos, Olympic as Paul Galan, chief scientific and innovation area Meteorological Agency Jose Antonio Garcia-Moya, historians such as José Luis Casado Soto and Angel Trujillo, writers like Enrique Alvarez etc. The cycle will be developed in the Real Club Marítimo, Real Tennis Club, Real Club de Regatas and Cantabrian Maritime Museum.

The cycle was presented on Wednesday at a press conference by the CEO of Sports of the Government of Cantabria, Javier Soler, Gema Igual, Councillor for Tourism and Institutional Relations of the City of Santander, and Enrique Liniers, commander of Navy Santander. They all agreed on the importance of such initiatives that help to "involve" the city in the upcoming World Yacht for September.

Soler has stressed that this event "will undoubtedly transform Santander and Cantabria", and stressed the importance of such cultural proposals that can be enjoyed by a "large number" of people.

For his part, Gema Igual thanked the "prompt response" from Menéndez Pelayo Society, organizer of this cycle, the call made months ago from the city of Santander to various institutions and bodies shall make proposals that will help "attract a wide range and Share "sports event" of the first magnitude. In this lecture, a concert series, as well as an exhibition of paintings Indalecio Sobrino which may be accessed at the Palace of Festivals the next September will also join.

The aim of this lecture is to inform citizens about the importance of Santander celebrating this World Sailing Championships, one of the major sporting events of recent years. It also seeks to highlight the features and rules of the sport, in addition to spreading the values of Olympism.

All this to create "an environment among citizens for more brilliance to this competition, and fostering a climate of welcome to the visitors" who come to this event.
