The Club

THE CLUB

Takapuna Boating Club is located at Takapuna Beach on Auckland’s North Shore.  Auckland is the major port for entry to New Zealand. The Club and its adjacent waters provide consistent and challenging weather conditions for optimum dinghy sailing.

Recent successful events held at Takapuna Boating Club include:

2008 – Tornado World Championship.
2008 – RS:X World Championship.
2008 – Laser and Laser Radial World Championship.
2010 – Splash Worlds.
2012 – 470 Junior World Championship.
2014 - A-Class Catamaran World Championship.

Takapuna is nestled on the North Shore of the Waitemata Harbour, in the Auckland region. The natural advantages of a warm climate, beautiful beaches and spectacular scenery contribute to the popularity of one of the most vibrant cities in New Zealand.

Takapuna Boating Club offers:

  • A moderate sized, modern and well-supported club, with a large open grassed area adjacent, suitable for boat rigging and container storage.
  • Club facilities – showers, bathrooms, snack bar – all within immediate access of the boat park.
  • Adequate boat launching facilities both from the beach, directly in front of the clubhouse and on a dedicated ramp only metres away.
  • Attractive tree-lined beach affording plenty of space for spectators.
  • 5 minutes walk to restaurants, bars and cafes, modern shopping facilities and a wide range of accommodation options.
  • One of the very best sailing venues in New Zealand and the venue for four World Championships in 2008, prior to the Beijing Olympics.

Plus Takapuna and the North Shore are a well-utilised training destination during the European winter period. Our climate provides varied training conditions that challenge and hone the skills of those who choose to sail here.
