Estonia won the bid to host Finn Gold Cup 2013!

08.07.2011
At the annual general meeting in Helsinki, International Finn Association decided to give the organizing rights for Finn Gold Cup 2013 to Estonia.

Estonian Finn Association representative Ants Väinsalu said that Tallinn has a history of successful international championship regattas. “Pirita has excellent sailing conditions with very low risk of a day on shore – probability of a day with no wind, storms or other extremes is low in the summer months. Add to that the very convenient facilities at the venue, including a hotel, and you get the perfect place to host an international championship,” Väinsalu said.

Finn Gold Cup 2013 will be organized in Tallinn by Estonian Finn Association in cooperation with Estonian Yachting Union and ESS Kalev Yacht Club. The selected venue for the regatta is going to be Pirita – the very same venue where the 1980 Olympic Regatta was held. Other major international championships hosted in Pirita include 2010 European Championships & Trophy for Laser Standard and Laser Radial, 2007 World Championships Formula Junior and Women, 2005 European Junior Championships 470 and 2002 World Championships 470 to name a few.

Estonia has a long history of Finn sailing. Tallinn sailor Aleksander Tsutselov won the Olympic silver medal in Rome 1960. Current leader of Estonian Finn sailing is Deniss Karpak. This is going to be the second time for Estonia to host Finn Gold Cup – previously in 1994 in Pärnu.
